As a global humanitarian and health organization that provides life-saving care to people in crisis, Medical Teams is broadening the reach of our donated surplus medical supplies. Instead of going into landfills, our surplus supplies were sent to Cambodia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Kenya, Nepal, Rwanda, Ukraine and other international and U.S. partners. n PROGRESS BY THE NUMBERS + 150 tons of surplus medical supplies donated and kept out of landfills in 2023 REPROCESSING MEDICAL DEVICES Reprocessing single-use medical devices is one tactic Providence is using to meet waste-reduction targets. Sequential compression devices — inflatable sleeves used for improving circulation in the legs — are a successful example. After cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, refurbishing and testing by our reprocessing partner, these devices are available again for reuse. Through this program, Providence reduces waste and generates financial savings while maintaining our high standards of patient care. By reprocessing medical devices, we can divert waste from landfills, drive sustainable practices in the medical industry and contribute to a greener and healthier future for all. To reduce our impact, Providence has set a goal to divert more than half of our waste away from landfills and hazardous streams by 2030. We are working on every front to achieve this, from reducing consumption and single-use products to finding innovative ways to reuse and recycle waste.
