Sister T Sister Terrence Landini, or Sister T as she is lovingly referred to, came from Chicago to join the Torrance Little Company of Mar y Sisters in 1966, just six years after the hospital opened. She held the roles of Assistant Administrator, Director of Nursing and Director of Human Resources. Working closely with Dr. Steve Liu, Sr. Terrence was integral in the establishment of the cardiac surgical program and Cath lab in the early 1970s. The cardiac unit expanded from a four- bed unit to a fifteen-bed unit and was one of the first units to have defibrillators at ever y bedside. In 197 3, Sister Terrence was transferred back to Evergreen Park to be Chair of the Board of Little Company of Mar y Hospital. In 1980, Sister Terrence returned to the South Bay when she was appointed as Superior of the Little Company of Mar y Convent in Torrance. She first joined the Foundation Board in 1982. Sister Terrence has ser ved as Provincial Councilor twice in her career. Sister T has a special place in her hear t for palliative care. When she was practicing as a nurse in the cardiac unit, she saw how patients with congestive hear t failure would often be readmitted to the hospital. She knew if there was a way to help these patients at home with their long-term illness they wouldn't need to be readmitted so she advocated for nurses to go to patient 's homes. Additionally, when her father was ill, she again saw the need for more care that could be provided at home rather than in the hospital setting. When a donation was made in her name in the early 2000 's, when palliative care was just finding its roots in healthcare, she decided to create the Sister Terrence Landini Endowment for Palliative Care. This endowment has now grown to over $1 million, ensuring her legacy of compassionate care for years to come. At 87 she continues to be the voice of our mission and comes to the chapel daily for Mass and rounds on caregivers, physicians, and patients nearly ever y day.
