On August 11-13, our nurses, par tners in care, physicians, leaders,
community members and Community Ministr y Board members
represented our Nursing Excellent beautifully during our Magnet re-
designation site visit at Torrance. The next step in the process takes
about 8-12 weeks before we get a formal outcome from our visit. I want
to thank all for the incredible par ticipation and engagement, especially
our Magnet Ambassador escor ts: Ari Meyers, Trisha Saul, Courtney
Herron, Jazzel Atienza, Sohl Chapman and Cindy Wishon. Thank you for
easing the way of our appraisers.
One of the Magnet appraiser recommendations was for us to continue
to expand beyond Nursing as we have begun to fully realize "inter-
professional " practice collaboration across as disciplines. As an
immediate next step, we have invited Respirator y Therapy and PT / OT
/ Speech depar tments to join our quar terly Interdisciplinar y Practice
Committee. This committee ser ves two purposes: 1.) To meet the
regulator y requirement of review and approval of all advanced practice
caregivers and their standardized procedures and 2.) Provide a forum to
address oppor tunities for enhancing the relationships and collaboration
of our caregivers and physicians. Expanding the membership here
will elevate the voice of more caregivers to continue to create the
environment of care in which clinicians thrive.
Our San Pedro ministr y has assembled a highly engaged design team who
has been working to create their Shared Governance structure, bylaws,
and membership. This team has done an amazing job in pulling together
a professional structure to enhance autonomy and empowerment in
the San Pedro nursing team as well as embed evidence-based practice
into all nursing practices to drive quality patient outcomes. The team
is aiming for a formal kick-off in October. We are looking for ward to the
amazing outcomes that will come for ward from this exciting new time
for nursing at San Pedro!
