strengthen the Core
• COVID-19 positive patients are isolated to specific areas of each medical center to
prevent transmission of the virus to other patients
• Dedicated COVID-19 units are located a safe distance from all operating rooms
• All operating rooms and COVID-19 rooms are cleaned with the Xenex® robot which
uses UV light to kill germs including the COVID-19 virus
• Increased the frequency of cleaning for waiting areas, exam rooms, elevators,
elevator buttons, restrooms etc., to ensure the highest level of disinfecting
• Practice measures that ensure we meet social distancing directives in all areas of
our medical centers
• All patients having essential surgeries or procedures receive a COVID-19 test prior
to their scheduled procedure to ensure their safety and to prevent anyone from
entering the medical center who is COVID-19 positive without the proper protective
equipment and awareness of the staff treating the patient
• We follow all county and state mandates on visitor restrictions; however we do
provide compassionate exceptions as appropriate
• Providence Health started a caregiver research study for the detection of the SARS-
CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) antibodies.
Caregiver and Physician Engagement
Physician Engagement Survey
In the fall of 2020, members of the medical staff from San Pedro and Torrance
participated in a survey that focused on our COVID-19 response, the emotional/mental
health of our physicians, and their overall satisfaction with each ministr y. Despite
the challenges we all faced over the last year, the results for both ministries were
overwhelmingly positive. Through the survey results, however, we realized how vital it
was to provide resources to help our medical staff deal with the impact the pandemic
was having on their work and personal lives. Recognizing the potential long-term
effects from the pandemic, the Chiefs of the Medical Staffs and Physician Well Being
Committees have prioritized our physician health and will continue to offer support
and services in 2021.
Caring for the poor and vulnerable during the pandemic.
