Caring after death
Caring for your loved one after death
We believe that dying is a sacred event. When your loved one
dies, a nurse or physician will confirm that they have died and
record the time of death. Your loved one's body will stay warm
for a short while and will become cooler as time passes.
You may want to spend time with your loved one's body.
When possible, you and your family may be invited to remain
with your loved one for a predetermined period of time.
You may want to sit quietly, offer prayers or sacred readings
or share stories and/or memories.
You may want to notify family and friends.
A chaplain will meet with you to discuss next steps and
complete the appropriate paperwork.
At the appropriate time, a nurse will prepare your loved one
to be transferred to the morgue or mortuary.
