Health Matters: Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center | 3 "T his is the state-of-the-art facility our community needs and deserves," says Sharon Gross, executive director of construction. "It will ease the way for everyone who enters our doors, whether they are receiving services or waiting for a loved one." The striking new patient tower and building will be complete by the end of the year, and the doors will be open to the community in the first quarter of 2023. The emergency department outside structure is now underway and will include a canopy for dropping off patients. According to Gross, the outer skin of the buildings is mostly in place and you can now get a feel for how it will look when finished. "The new patient tower will have 150 private rooms that each include a sofa bed, a recliner and an interactive television," says Gross. "The added privacy and high-tech components will improve the experience of having to stay in a hospital." Patients will be able to enjoy TV and listen to music but also watch educational videos about their specific concerns, order meals and get to know their care team members. Other innovations include patient whiteboards that provide the most current information and interface with electronic medical records. Each floor in the new tower will have a waiting room off the elevator area for loved ones, and the emergency department (ED) will have 32 private rooms, as compared with 15 today. Emergency medical services (EMS) will also have a private entrance in the back of the new ED. "There have been many obstacles for EMS entering and exiting our campus, and they will soon have ample space when bringing patients to our facility," says Gross. "Their cooperation and support these past few years has really helped as we rebuild our community hospital. They are true heroes." Another exciting addition will be the peaceful Healing Garden near the ED, which is accessible only from inside the facility. "It will be a place where our visitors can sit, meditate, heal, relax and enjoy the outdoors with trees, flowers and benches," explains Gross. After the new patient tower and lobby are complete, there will be a cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment center to house shipping and receiving, as well as a 17-bed post-anesthesia care unit. Additionally, work on five state-of-the-art operating rooms begins in 2023. Finally, visitors will be able to enter and exit the campus on Burbank Boulevard, thanks to a new set of streetlights, as well as the current Clark Street entrance. "We are eager to deliver the completed project to the caregivers here and to the community," says Gross. "We know that construction can be difficult, and we appreciate the patience of our community over the entire project.
