9 Our Mission at work Our mission and values are alive and well. It is evident in the phenomenal and unwavering devotion our caregivers and physicians show in their care to those we serve and to each other as we responded to another surge of COVID-19. It is truly an inspiration for all who bear witness to it. Leadership development Congratulations to the following caregivers who will be attending our system's leadership formation and development programs. Carmel Nichols will be attending Ministr y Leadership Formation, a 2.5-year formation experience for system executives. Katie Webster, My Le, Monica Hopper, and Sherry Oliveras will attend our Core Leader Formation program (formerly known as Mission and Mentoring), which is a 9 to 12-month formation experience for core leaders. Andrew Campbell will be entering the new Discerning Mission Leader program for those discerning a career in mission leadership. Kathryn Girardi, Emily Demers, and Paul White will be attending the Mission Leadership Academy. This new program is designed for caregivers who hold great potential to continue our mission, value, vision, and promise. It is open to all caregivers (not just leaders) who hold a bachelor 's degree. All participants were selected from a rigorous discernment process and will receive a graduate level certificate in mission-centered leadership. Congratulations to you all and thank you for representing Providence Little Company of Mary South Bay in these programs. Leadership commissioning We paused on commissioning our leaders during COVID and we were hoping to commission all new leaders with an in-person "catch-up" ceremony, but due to the new COVID surge, we have decided to have a virtual catch-up ceremony in 2021. Mission Fidelity Assessment outcome We completed our Mission Fidelity Assessment (MFA) in March 2021. The MFA is a system-wide initiative to formally self-assess and deeply reflect on our ministr y 's identity and mission. Through assessment of policies, procedures, existing data, and anecdotal evidence, we considered the extent to which our mission, values, and commitments of Catholic identity are lived out in our organization. We identified strengths and opportunities for growth and then developed an action plan for continuous improvement. We offer our deepest gratitude to all of those who supported the assessment. We were the only ministr y in Southern California to get a 4 out of 5 on the overall ministr y score that was validated by external reviewers. Our action plan will address the areas of opportunity revealed in the assessment. Our first areas of focus are: 1. Offer a comprehensive education and awareness campaign around ethics, and 2. Intensify our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work. We plan to have a ministry-wide celebration later this year or early next year. Stay tuned! Chaplains to receive more visibility During the Chief Executive Caregiver Engagement advisory council meetings, council members requested more presence and visibility of our wonderful chaplains. Soon they will all be wearing a nice blue or grey blazer embroidered with their role as chaplain, and we hope to offer on-site chaplain coverage on both the day and night shifts. More to come! Torrance chaplains. San Pedro chaplains. Mission and Spiritual Care
