7 TORRANCE MINISTRY Badges Concern: Badges and badge readers that don't work. Solution: We have reprinted badges for those having issues clocking-in. New badges have been designed and roll-out information has been sent to all caregivers. TCU Concern: Inadequate space/location for eating lunch Solution: New picnic tables purchased and in place, adding seating capacity to outdoor break room/dining area. Parking Structure Concern: Safety and lack of cleanliness Solution: Stair well pressure washed, and weekly cleaning is now scheduled. Light bulbs have been replaced. Structure intercom replaced. Gates are open during high traffic flow times; After hours, gates open/close with badge reader. Security is rounding in the parking structure. Concern: Trash heap at DME Graveyard on 3rd floor of parking garage and askew parking bumpers Solution: Trash has been removed and all items are now contained inside caged area. Bumpers have been repaired and are included in a routine maintenance schedule. TCC Concern: Safety concerns for both patients and caregivers over broken beds Solution: Broken beds have been removed from the unit and replaced with newly purchased beds. Facilities team is now rounding at TCC daily to start the repair process as soon as possible on any broken beds. Tuition Concern: Continuing Education budget cut and staff feels the amount is not adequate to take effective courses specific to our patient population. Solution: The tuition reimbursement policy covers degrees or classes that advance professional practice. It does not cover CEU or required certifications to maintain required licenses. For nurses who are in the union, please refer to your Collective Bargaining Agreement for details. Consider Federal student loan forgiveness and how our Employment Verification tool, Quick Confirm, can be used to expedite reimbursement for these classes. Committee member Kevin (Pharmacy) has had success with this and has offered to field email questions if people need help using this tool. Please reach out to Kevin at: Kevin.Phan2@providence.org. Pharmacy Concern: Region and System communications come quickly and often the "why " is not explained. Solution: Feedback provided to Muno and Regional leadership. All future communications will now address why we are implementing a change. Care Management Concern: Lack of communication on Care Management Structure Changes Solution: Meetings have been held with the team to address the redesign, timelines and any concerns. Individual meetings were held with caregivers who had additional questions. Garr y held a meeting with CM Department on 8/5 and is working with the Regional Director. Alicia Zide is the new South Bay CM Manager. 4W Medical Concern: Lack of leadership presence and identity as patient 'dumping ground ' Solution: 4W Medical was an observation (OBS) unit for several years. With the change in OBS requirements, they pivoted to a heavy med-surg unit and recently were the only unit taking non-ICU/PCU COVID-19 patients. These changes led to morale issues that are being addressed by nursing leadership. Shared Governance is engaging with the caregivers to help empower change. Concern: Aesthetic issues Solution: Painting has been done to improve aesthetic. Will investigate brighter lighting and replace carpet once the flooring replacement project is completed in two months. Main entrance sign into the Unit was replaced when the Unit was renamed, and additional wayfinding signs are being replaced to reflect the new name. Tele Overflow Concern: Aesthetic and lighting issues. Solution: Unit now has new LED lighting, new flooring, and a new nurse call system. Unit has been repainted with brighter color. ICU Concern: ICU staff reported some HR and teamwork concerns. Solution: Meeting conducted with HR and ICU leadership to address these issues and improve teamwork. Also discussed process for training and education opportunities for caregivers and sign-ups via email have been sent. These are just a few of the things that have been completed to address your concerns. Many others are in process and will be completed in the upcoming weeks and months. We will continue to share our progress with you and hope that you will continue to share your ideas with us. Through our PLCMMC family, we are truly making a difference for our caregivers and all who come to us for care.
