Reducing food waste at
Providence St. Joseph Medical Center
Through its partnership with Food Finders, a local
organization that picks up extra meals and delivers them to
local pantries and shelters, Providence St. Joseph
Medical Center in Burbank donates more than 500
pounds of food each month to
feed the hungry.
Analyzing data in the kitchen
Providence is partnering with with one of our food
service suppliers to reduce food waste through two
data-collection initiatives:
• Waste Not: a waste-tracking tool that helps kitchen teams
analyze data, identify waste issues and find solutions
• Carbon Foodprint: a tool that measures the carbon,
water and waste of our café operations and helps users
create action plans to reduce our footprint
Addressing food insecurity at
Providence Milwaukie Hospital
Providence Milwaukie Hospital in Oregon screens every
patient for food insecurity, a crucial social determinant
of health. Those in need of resources are referred to the
hospital's Community Teaching Kitchen, where
they can access in-person navigation, classes,
and a family market of nutritious foods.
