INTRODUCTION ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIAL GOVERNANCE ABOUT US
RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION
A climate emergency quickly turns into a health emergency, especially for
communities of color, unhoused individuals, populations that have been
historically marginalized, those living with chronic conditions, the very
young or the elderly. As health care providers, we are uniquely positioned
to identify and prepare these populations.
Providence was one of the first health care organizations to sign the Health and
Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge. The pledge called us to develop
a climate resilience plan to anticipate the needs of groups most at risk of climate-
related harm.
Our resilience
plan focuses
on four key areas:
Following through on our pledge, we published our first climate resilience plan
in 2023 and shared it widely throughout our organization to engage caregivers in
this important work. Shaping our work is We REACH, our framework that focuses
on resilience, equity, adaptation, climate and health.
As these efforts gather momentum in 2024, we are forming governance structures
to guide the work, identifying metrics to track progress, and strengthening
community partnerships to build resilience in the most vulnerable populations.
