Dear Providence Alaska Medical Center Nursing Leaders:
PAMC and AaNA meet for a third contract negoaon session
On Feb. 5-6, Providence Alaska Medical Center (PAMC) and the Alaska Nurses Associaon (AaNA) met for
a third two-day session to negoate a new contract covering PAMC nurses. The teams discussed several
topics, including order of overstaff, registry shi requirements, paid me off (PTO) requests, short term
disability and compensaon. We are happy to report the teams reached tentave agreement on
contract arcles covering leaves of absence and definions and moved closer to finding agreement on
other outstanding non-economic items.
Reviewing wage schedule steps
The current wage schedule for PAMC nurses was writen in 1999 – 25 years ago. Both teams agreed it
made sense to review the percent increases between steps. Specifically, the teams are looking at
whether steps later in the schedule need to be modified for more experienced nurses.
Wage proposals exchanged by both pares
Both the PAMC and AaNA teams exchanged wage proposals during this session. The PAMC team
maintained its proposed across-the-board 3% increase for the first year of the new contract – the same
amount as year-one of the most recent contract. PAMC also proposed modificaons to the wage
schedule in the first year that would result in a more than 2% increase to overall wage costs. The PAMC
team maintained its proposed across-the-board increases for year two (2%) and increased year three by
another quarter percent (to 1.75%).
The next bargaining session is scheduled for March 5-6, and we know both teams will connue to
exchange compensaon proposals.
