2 | Health Matters: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Letter to the Community S ince 1961, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center has been committed to making sure you and your family stay healthy and well. Our commitment to you guides us in upholding and advancing our traditions of clinical excellence and innovation. I am honored to share a couple of recent successes at our hospital. For the fourth straight year, Healthgrades named Providence Holy Cross one of America's 50 Best Hospitals, ranking us in the top 1% of hospitals in the country. We were also recently awarded the 2023 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award for the third year in a row, one of the most important recognitions for us, since your safety is our top priority. Finally, DNV GL Healthcare, the international gold standard in recognizing the highest level of care, certified our hospital as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. These successes would not have been possible without our compassionate and skilled team of physicians and caregivers. Our commitment to you inspires us to stay focused on providing exceptional and compassionate care, growing our hospital services and programs and bringing the newest in medical technology to our community. I hope that you will enjoy this edition of Health Matters, where you'll learn about some of our award-winning programs and innovative surgical procedures, as well as our suggestions for helping you stay on top of your health. If you or someone you love is dealing with an aching knee or a troublesome hip, learn about joint replacement surgery offered through our orthopedics program, ranked 35th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. These procedures often result in less pain and shorter recovery time, getting you back on your feet just in time for summer. Our obstetrics and gynecology program—ranked 36th in the nation by U.S. News—is easing the way for new moms by connecting them to expert care and resources, both before and after delivery. To keep you on track for good health, read about some of the ways you can incorporate healthier and more sustainable eating, and see information on health screenings. Lastly, I am excited to share that we continue to see progress on our new neonatal intensive care unit, which is slated to open this summer. Our expanded NICU will increase our capacity to care for our littlest and most vulnerable patients and reduce the need to transfer fragile infants to other facilities, keeping mothers and their babies together. This is just another way Providence Holy Cross is caring for our community. This year is off to an exciting start, and I look forward to sharing more in the months ahead. Bernard Klein, MD, Chief Executive Providence Holy Cross Medical Center
