Health Matters: Providence St. Joseph Hospital | 3 Nurses Say 'Baa-maste' to Goat Yoga In appreciation of the dedicated and compassionate care they provide to our patients, our Emergency Care Center (ECC) and Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) caregivers were treated to a healing morning of yoga focused on strength, flexibility and goats. No kidding! This wellness retreat, held at Goods and Goats Market, was funded by grateful donors Melissa and Michael Lora, whose generosity also supports nursing education and our new 20-bed Progressive Care Unit. "This is an important activity for mental health," said Melissa. "We love animals, yoga and the outdoors—it's a perfect day!" Judging by the laughter and smiles, the team agreed. After a serious health event in 2019, Michael ended up in the Providence St. Joseph MICU. While initially touch-and-go, after two weeks of intensive treatment, Michael rebounded. He credits his survival to the ECC and MICU teams and critical care and pulmonology specialist Peter Smethurst, MD (who also partook in the yoga). "What do you say to a group of people who saved your life?" Michael asked. "We say a silent prayer every day and express our gratitude for you."
