7 Mission and Spiritual Care Our Mission at work Every day our caregivers, volunteers, and physicians bring the mission and our core values alive with devotion and a spirit of courage. Our mission and values ground us and ensure that we remain steadfast expressing our healing ministry to our patients and our communities. The annual Values in Action award is the highest honor bestowed on our caregivers. It celebrates caregivers who consistently embody our mission and uniquely live in action our values of Compassion, Dignity, Justice, Excellence, and Integrity. Values in Action On July 8, we had the joy to highlight an incredibly special recognition for one of our 2022 San Pedro Values in Action honorees. Out of about 7,000 nominations across the health system, Martha Rios, RN, was recognized as one of the 18 health system's honorees for their exemplary model in living our values. Martha is an inspiration to all! Nominations for the 2023 Values in Action awards closed August 5. The caregiver selection committee will meet in September to select our five honorees for each ministry. Stay tuned for the announcement of our winners later this Fall. Thank you to all our honorees for being a bright light in our ministries and communities Martha Rios, RN, was recognized as one of 18 health system honorees as an exemplary model for living our values. New Leader Commissioning On August 17 we celebrated new leaders who joined us or were promoted to leadership roles from January 2022 to June 2022. This ceremony is an opportunity for us to reflect on leadership and the legacy entrusted to us by our founding Sisters. Thank you, leaders, for answering the call. New leaders who started in their leadership role after June will be commissioned in late Fall. A Second Vasek Polak Clinic As many of you know, we have a community partnership with the PMI Vasek Polak Health Clinic in Hawthorne to help patients find an affordable medical home. The "medical home" is a model of care that is patient- centered, comprehensive, team-based, coordinated, accessible, and focused on quality and safety. Through the Providence Community Health Department, a team of community health workers is integrated in our emergency departments and work alongside the emergency room staff to monitor, track and coordinate referrals of patients who need follow-up care, and have no medical home, after being discharged. The goal is to ensure that patients referred to the clinic have a medical home and avoid utilizing the emergency department (ED) for their primary and non-emergent care. In June 2021, we closed the OB service line in our San Pedro ministry. This decision was difficult for us and discerned over five years. In alignment with our Mission, Values, Vision, and Providence Promise, and in keeping with our commitment to our community, we are in the process of opening a second Vasek Polak Clinic in the former OB medical offices located near our San Pedro acute ministry. This clinic will ensure that members of our San Pedro community, especially those who have no access to primary care or who are under/uninsured, have a medical home and no longer need come to the ED for routine, non- emergent care. We are excited for this Vasek Polak Clinic to open soon for our San Pedro and South Bay communities. We look forward to sharing more as it develops.
