Health Matters: Providence St. Joseph Hospital | 3 Leading the Way in Heart Care Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a less invasive treatment for the heart than open-heart valve replacement surgery, and the procedure is growing in popularity nationwide. To keep track of the ongoing results of this treatment, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology monitor the safety and real-world outcomes related to every TAVR program in the United States. Hospitals were recently given the opportunity to participate in public reporting of this data, making outcome measurements transparent to the public. The data covers a three-year period and grades hospitals with one to three stars on patient outcomes after a TAVR procedure. We are proud to announce that Providence St. Joseph Hospital received a three-star rating in the most recent report, which places it among the top 7% of hospitals nationwide. "This is a testament to the amazing multidisciplinary team that cares for the patients. And all of the many providers and caregivers who support the structural heart team and who provide excellent, compassionate care for the patients are to be congratulated," says Jennifer Hall, RN, executive director of surgical, cardiovascular, renal and transplant services. Staying active in the winter months will help burn more calories, which in turn will help with weight management, reduce stress levels and increase energy levels. 2. Snack wisely. Start with fruits and veggies to snack on. This will fill your belly and help limit the amount of high-caloric/processed foods. 3. Practice mindful eating. When attending a holiday meal, go in with a plan. Have an idea of realistic portion sizes and how you visualize your plate. After eating a "healthy" plate with realistic portions, you can choose one or two items to indulge in. This will help keep calories in check but still allow you to enjoy the things you like without the guilt. 4. Control your stress levels. Don't overload your schedule with holiday events. Allow yourself some time to rest and practice self-care. 5. Get plenty of Zs. Not only does sufficient sleep help with weight management, but it also helps you think more clearly and make better choices throughout your day.
