8 YOUR P ROV IDENCE CARE TEAM ROLES AN D FUNCT IONS The members of the orthopedic care team work very closely with one another to meet the individual needs of each patient. We are committed to this team approach and to your recovery. The goal is getting you back on your feet so that you can return home safely. Your active participation during your recovery period will aid in your rehabilitation. We extend our best wishes, and may your stay with us be a pleasant one. Your Health Care Team Orthopedic Surgeon: A Physician/Surgeon that performs your Total Joint Replacement. He/she directs your care, following you from your first office visit through your rehabilitation and you through your office visits after surgery as indicated. Physician Assistant: A team member that works with your Physician/Surgeon to prescribe, diagnose and treat health care problems. They provide your pre- surgery and post-surgical care as well as assist during surgery. Anesthesiologist/ CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist: A Physician / Advance practice registered nurse, who is responsible for your anesthesia (putting you to sleep or numbing your legs) during your surgery. They monitor you and take care of you while the surgeon is performing your total joint replacement. The anesthesia team may also be involved in your pain management after surgery. Hospitalist: team member who is a physician that works only in the hospital with your team to manage medical issues that could impact your post-surgery recovery. Registered Nurse: Team member who are professional nurses under the direction of your surgeon who are responsible for managing your bedside nursing care following your surgery. They provide education about your health care needs to both you, your care coach and family. Nurse Technician: Team Member who is a nursing student enrolled in a Registered Nurse Bachelor of Science Degree program or a Registered Nurse Associate Degree program. They work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and will assist you with personal care such a personal hygiene, delivering meals, getting out of bed, some nursing procedures. Nursing Assistant Certified / NAC: Team member who assist with monitoring your vital signs, get you out of bed safely soon after surgery and bathroom activities as delegated by your Registered Nurse. Physical Therapist: Team member who work with you after your total joint replacement. They help you regain your range of motion, muscle strength and balance to walk safely with your new joint. They may help you with assistive devices after surgery such as a cane or walker.
