CNOR® Strong designation shows commitment to patient safety and positive surgical outcomes

Providence Saint John’s Health Center is pleased to announce it has recently earned the CNOR® Strongdesignation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI).  The CNOR Strong designation is given to facilities having at least 50% of its OR nursing staff CNOR certified.

The CNOR® certification program is for perioperative nurses interested in improving and validating their knowledge and skills and providing the highest quality care to their patients. Nurses earn the CNOR® certification by completing a minimum of 2 years and 2,400 hours of experience in perioperative nursing, with a minimum of 50% (1,200 hours) in the intraoperative setting and a rigorous exam.

“Achieving this recognition has increased patient confidence, as a trusted independent body has verified our familiarity with the newest technology and best practices in OR nursing which uphold the highest quality care,” said Jaleh Akhavan, director perioperative services, Providence Saint John’s Health Center. “Our team took pride in working together to achieve well-recognized honor.”

CNOR® Certification is an objective, measurable way of acknowledging the achievement of specialty knowledge beyond basic nursing preparation and RN licensure. Research shows that nurses who earn the CNOR credential have greater confidence in their clinical practice.

“Providence Saint John’s Health Center continues to pride itself on providing excellent care and competitive opportunities for training and certification,” said Marcel Loh, chief executive, Providence Saint John’s Health Center. “Congratulations to our OR nursing team for this accomplishment; their hard work continues to raise the bar for patient care.”

Patient safety and positive surgical outcomes are a priority at Providence Saint John’s and supporting nurses as they exceed expectations, achieving their perioperative nursing certification shows Providence’s commitment excellent care.
