She even met the family of a patient whose surgery she observed. Sharing her story brought them comfort, and when she later visited their loved one in the ICU, they expressed heartfelt gratitude for her presence. After graduation, Teylor hopes to return to Covenant's neurosciences unit — this time as a nurse — completing her journey from patient to caregiver. "I'm happy to be alive. Dr. Scranton saved my life." Taylor - Brain tumor survivor, aspiring Covenant Health nurse AAfter completing her first semester of nursing school, 23-year- old Teylor was diagnosed with a severe brain tumor and significant fluid buildup — a rare finding for someone her age. Just days later, she underwent successful brain surgery with Dr. Robert Scranton. Her recovery was demanding: three days in the ICU, two weeks on the neurosciences unit, and another week in rehabilitation. The physical and emotional toll was heavy, but her determination was stronger. Just two months after surgery, Teylor returned to nursing school, pushing through challenges with critical thinking and test performance to stay on course. During a recent neurology rotation, she found herself back on the same neurosciences unit — this time as a student nurse — working alongside Christa, the nurse who had cared for her before surgery. Their emotional reunion marked a powerful full-circle moment. In the operating room, Teylor later observed neurosurgical procedures with Dr. Scranton, including one similar to her own, deepening her perspective and calling to serve. Teylor. Where Healing Became Her Mission. On July 20, Nicky Napper — a strong, active 66-year-old who works full-time and manages his farm in Dawson County — was admitted to Covenant Medical Center with what was thought to be pneumonia. Pulmonologist Dr. Marque Hunter quickly sensed something more serious. Further testing revealed Nicky had suffered a heart attack. The following day, Cardiologist Dr. Marina Iskandir performed an angiogram that uncovered severe heart blockage. Cardiac Thoracic Surgeon Dr. David Malave was consulted, and within days, Nicky underwent a successful triple bypass surgery. Throughout his recovery, Nicky and his family say they felt surrounded by compassionate care. Dr. Hunter, Dr. Iskandir, Dr. Malave, and Heather Greene, NP, visited daily — offering not only medical updates, but reassurance and encouragement. They also expressed deep gratitude for his bedside nurse Armondo, case manager Annette, and the physical a nd occupational therapy teams. Today, Nicky continues to recover and grow stronger each day. Nikki. On Care From the Other Side. "As a nurse myself for 16 years, and a Covenant employee for 10 years, this was my first time experiencing care from the other side. I could not be more proud to be part of this organization." — Nikki's Daughter COVENANT HEALTH 2025 ANNUAL REPORT 1
