Community Connection: Covenant Health | 3 First Field Pulse Ablation Procedure Performed in West Texas Covenant Health is excited to announce the introduction of Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) for treating atrial fibrillation (A.Fib) at Covenant Medical Center, making us the first in West Texas to offer this groundbreaking technology. A.Fib is a serious heart rhythm disorder and occurs when the heart's electrical signals become irregular, causing the upper chambers of the heart to beat out of sync with the lower chambers. This can lead to symptoms such as heart palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, and an increased risk of stroke. Unlike traditional methods that rely on extreme heat (radio frequency) or cold (cryoablation), this technique uses electrical pulses to create precise changes in the heart tissue. This allows the heart to return to a more regular rhythm while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. "Our first procedure was performed successfully and with no complications," said Electrophysiologist Dr. Raj Ganeshan. "The PFA system exceeded expectations, and it's great to know immediately after the procedure is over that our patient is safe, and we won't have to worry about a late complication." This procedure is performed in a cathertization lab with minimally invasive techniques which requires only a small incision - leading to a faster recovery for the patient. The electrical pulses target only the problematic areas in the heart tissue, preserving healthy muscle and reducing potential side effects. Having PFA available at Covenant Health is a significant step forward for members of our community living with A.Fib. This procedure providers access to advanced care and an improved quality of life, all without having to travel long distances to receive the same treatment. We encourage those in our community who are impacted by atrial fibrillation to talk with their healthcare providers to determine if they might be candidates for this cutting-edge treatment.
