2 | Health Matters: Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro and Torrance Nate Mabry, MSN, RN, CENP, Chief Administrative Officer Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro and Torrance Letter to the Community B efore we look at this issue of Health Matters, let me take a moment to say how gratified I am to have joined the Providence Little Company of Mary family as chief administrative officer (CAO). I'm incredibly proud to return to the Providence family. The culture of the South Bay ministries is truly something special and inspiring. It has been humbling to hear the amazing stories from our caregivers and patients and our community of the life-changing, mission-driven care that we provide. As part of my new role, I work closely with the Providence Little Company of Mary leadership team, medical staff leadership and service line directors and the clinical institutes. The dedication of these groups to caring for each patient as an individual with compassion and dignity never fails to impress me. It's that dedication to caring that you'll see reflected in the stories here. On page 4, meet Candy Lugo, a healthy young woman who found herself suddenly in a life-threatening situation with a pulmonary embolism. She was saved by the outstanding ER team and the fast work of Dr. Rishi Kaushal with new state-of-the-art medical equipment that allowed him to get the blood clot out of Candy 's lungs quickly and safely so she could breathe again. On page 6 you'll meet another patient, Boyd Jeffery, who, like Candy, is here today because of the outstanding care in the ER, specifically through its accreditation as a comprehensive stroke care center. Boyd suffered a near-fatal hemorrhagic stroke but has recovered well, in part due to the intensive therapy he received at the acute rehabilitation unit. On page 8, Dr. Faisal Ahmed shares his insights about new treatments for enlarged prostates, including the latest and safest groundbreaking technology, Aquablation. In closing, on page 10 you'll meet two young women whose weight- loss transformations thanks to bariatric surgery are nothing short of awe-inspiring. We hope these stories of how our compassionate physicians improve patients' lives will touch you and help you see how we continue the legacy of the Sisters of Providence, who founded our medical centers more than a century ago. That's what's drawn me to my role as CAO and the goal of delivering superior care to our community that I share every day with our physicians and caregivers. It's an honor to be here!
