2 | Health Matters: Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro and Torrance Michael Ricks, Coastal Service Area Chief Executive Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro and Torrance Letter to the Community I n this issue of Health Matters you will discover how Providence Little Company of Mary is investing in new, groundbreaking technology to provide cutting-edge patient care. Equipping our compassionate physicians with state-of-the-art medical equipment means that they can maximize their skills to improve patients' lives. On page 4, you'll meet orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Mayeda, who literally has X-ray vision. He's not Superman, but with the aid of the HipInsight mixed-reality navigation system, he can see into patients' bodies to perform hip replacement surgeries with greater precision and efficiency, which means smaller incisions and faster recoveries. Former NFL offensive lineman Mike Rosenthal, who is featured in this story, was thrilled to walk out of the hospital on crutches the same day he had his surgery with Dr. Mayeda. Another highly skilled surgeon who is utilizing advanced technology is Dr. Remi Ajiboye, whom you'll meet on page 6. He talks about how excited he is to be using the exclusive Globus ExcelsiusGPS robotic system for spinal surgeries. Dr. Ajiboye very much appreciates the benefits the system conveys to patients. Like HipInsight, ExcelsiusGPS makes surgery more efficient and precise, minimizing the risk of complications and expediting recovery. On page 8 you'll find the birth stories of two new moms. They discuss the very special care they received at the Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance maternity center. What made their birth experiences so extraordinary were the hospital's unique doula and midwifery programs, which ensure that mothers-to-be get caring, compassionate support when they need it most. In closing, on page 10 you can find out what's new at the Advanced Care Center, a facility conveniently located less than a mile from Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance that offers unparalleled outpatient services in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, neurology, oncology and orthopedics. We hope you'll enjoy this peek inside our health centers and learning more about how we continue the healing legacy of the Sisters of Providence, who founded our medical centers more than a century ago. This year marks our sixth consecutive year on Newsweek's annual list of the World's Best Hospitals—a distinction that celebrates the tireless work of our physicians and caregivers in delivering superior care. It is an honor to be able to provide that care to you, our community.
