A New and Expanded NICU: Elevating Care for Little Lives The newly renovated neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Providence Holy Cross is designed to provide highly specialized care for premature and high-risk babies. Each of our newborn patients is assigned a personal NICU team consisting of neonatologists and neonatal nurses, pediatric neurologists, respiratory therapists and lactation consultants who provide 24-hour infant care. Our Level III NICU is equipped with 18 beds, six more than it previously had. A centralized monitoring system allows the charge nurse and attending physician to oversee the cardiorespiratory status of all babies simultaneously, enhancing patient safety and care coordination. UNIQUE FEATURES INCLUDE: • 18 Giraffe OmniBeds for safe transport, ventilators and additional pumps, ensuring that infants receive the highest standard of care. • Therapeutic hypothermia, a cutting-edge treatment that mitigates long-term neurological effects by lowering infants' body temperature to reduce the risk of brain injury and long-term neurological damage following oxygen deprivation during birth. • Secure viewing cameras that allow parents to remotely observe their babies when unable to visit in person. Providence Holy Cross Medical Center places a strong emphasis on supporting breastfeeding, providing services to facilitate lactation and nutrition for NICU babies. Through initiatives like the Bridge to Breastfeeding program, we assist mothers in transitioning to breastfeeding, providing donor milk when necessary. Following their NICU journey, infants receive ongoing care through the high-risk infant follow-up clinic, ensuring that their health and development are closely monitored in the first two years of life. The new NICU at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center reinforces our dedication to delivering world-class care to our community, ensuring that more infants can receive the specialized care they need close to home.
