Every Moment Matters Sharing Sacred Encounters In our ongoing commitment to spotlighting the unsung heroes in our healthcare community, we are excited to launch a new initiative: "Every Moment Matters." This endeavor seeks to collect and share exceptional stories of caregivers who go above and beyond in their dedication to patients and our community. These heartwarming narratives will shed light on the selfless acts and extraordinary efforts of our caregivers who embody the spirit of compassionate care. From innovative approaches to patient well-being to community outreach initiatives, each story will showcase the remarkable impact caregivers make every day. We invite you to join us in recognizing and appreciating these remarkable individuals. By sharing their stories, we hope to inspire others and foster a sense of gratitude for the tireless efforts of caregivers shaping a healthier and more compassionate community. Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for the upcoming editions of "Every Moment Matters," where we celebrate the essence of exceptional care that defines our healthcare family. If you have a story you'd like to share and a caregiver you'd like to recognize, please submit it here. Read below about our most recent recognized caregiver. She also received a Daisy Award for her care for this encounter! We'd like to recognize Laura Lafreniere for going above and beyond for a postpartum patient who was transferred to Medical ICU. "Laura Lafreniere is caring for a postpartum patient who wanted to breastfeed her infant but experienced complications resulting in being separated from her infant. This nurse is honoring this mother's wishes by going the extra mile to protect her ability to breastfeed her infant by holding the breast pump on her breasts every 4 hours for 15 minutes. This is incredible care and should be recognized as such!" "Laura has been with Medical ICU since 2020 and consistently goes above and beyond for her patients and family members. She is an amazing leader on the unit and precepts new nurses. I am so incredibly proud to have her as part of our unit and teaching new nurses how to care for and respect patients' wishes even in their most vulnerable state." -Susan Stegemoeller, MICU Nurse Manager While Laura first identified the need and took action to find a solution, it was a team effort that kept this mom on her pumping schedule. We'd like to show our appreciation to the entire MICU floor for their combined efforts and teamwork in caring for this mom and not just her immediate health needs, but for the needs of her entire family. pictured, L-to-R: Susan Stegemoeller, Laura Lafreniere Community Connection: Covenant Health | 7
