EMERGENCY ROOM Did you know that only about one-third of visits to emergency departments in California are true emergencies? The ER is your best choice when you need lifesaving care immediately. If you think you're having a heart attack or stroke, do not drive; call 911. Not only will you receive medical attention on your way to the hospital, but the paramedic will call ahead and alert the hospital of your arrival. Our emergency department is ready to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. URGENT CARE This option is ideal for conditions that require prompt medical attention and are more serious than what you'd see your primary care physician for, like burns, minor lacerations and wounds, and worsening asthma, as well as simple sprains, strains, fever, cough, cold and flu. Patients are seen on a walk-in basis. To view urgent care locations near you, visit providence.org/services/ urgent-care. Health Matters: Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center | 9
