2 | Health Matters: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Letter to the Community A s we look forward to the holidays and another new year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for our fantastic team at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. Every day, our physicians and caregivers serve our community with compassion, excellence and innovation. That's why I am honored to share that Providence Holy Cross has earned more awards than ever before for quality, safety, excellence and overall employee satisfaction. This summer, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services awarded Providence Holy Cross five stars for providing top-quality care—the first time our hospital has achieved such an accomplishment! Just 10.4% of U.S. hospitals earned five-star ratings this year. In addition, our hospital was named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report—ranking 28th in the state—and recognized for clinical excellence in 12 specialties and procedures. We were also incredibly honored to be recognized as one of Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work, the fourth time in five years that Providence Holy Cross has received this award. We are fortunate to have a talented, compassionate and skilled team that continues to reach new heights, not only in quality, safety and expertise but in the teamwork that makes our hospital a great place to work. Providence Holy Cross was also included in the 2023 Great Hospitals in America list published by Becker 's Hospital Review. The list includes 83 hospitals nationwide, including 13 in California. Providence Holy Cross is the only non-academic medical center in Southern California that was included. Our Providence Holy Cross family is truly phenomenal! You'll read about some of our accolades, as well as how we're helping our community stay healthy, in this edition of Health Matters. Read about some of the best treatment options for pain management; learn how our dedicated cancer care team is easing patients' way through extensive oncology services, including a revolutionary procedure called Y90; and see how our newly expanded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is helping us care for even more of our most vulnerable patients. Finally, I'd like to thank you, our readers and community, for your support of our hospital over the years. Thank you for entrusting us with your care. Since 1961, we have delivered on our Mission and served our community with unwavering dedication. We look forward to continuing to provide world-class care for you and your families, close to home. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy happy, healthy and memorable holidays. Bernard Klein, MD, Chief Executive Providence Holy Cross Medical Center
