2 | Health Matters: Providence Saint John's Health Center Letter to the Community A t Providence Saint John's Health Center, our focus is on creating an outstanding patient experience that is marked by compassionate, personalized and top-quality care through decisions driven by our Mission and our values. We believe this has created a unique healing environment that provides access to world-class care and leading-edge medical research within a community hospital setting. That is why there is nothing more humbling than when we hear an inspirational story from a patient or their family member about the excellent care they received or an anecdote about a special interaction they had with our staff. It is especially meaningful when a past positive experience has offered comfort to a patient who is back at Providence Saint John's faced with another health challenge, as was the case for Heather Barry, whose newborn son was delivered 13 weeks early via emergency cesarean section. While no mother wants to see her precious child in the NICU, Heather and her husband, David, felt reassured knowing their family would be cared for by neonatologist James Fritzell, MD, the same physician who oversaw the care of another son born three years earlier. Thanks to Dr. Fritzell and the rest of their care team, both little boys had excellent outcomes. You can read about their experience on page 4. Inside this edition of Health Matters, you'll also learn how technology helps bring patients closer to their care teams and enhances the patient experience. On page 7, we detail our partnership with Project Ronin and their extraordinary cancer intelligence platform, which will help improve outcomes and raise the standard of cancer care for patients, caregivers and providers. The platform includes an app that allows patients to track their symptoms in real time and alerts the care team when it determines that patient symptoms suggest a need for follow-up. In addition, this issue includes a few physician spotlights: Dr. Baiya Krishnadasan and Dr. Hyo Park. Both are well-regarded physicians in their respective fields, and we are so grateful that they have joined our medical staff. And to round things out, we have an information piece that outlines the core differences between an emergency department and urgent care. We hope this edition provides you with a glimpse of the extraordinary care that can be found at our health center, and provides a level of comfort to you, knowing that no matter the health need, we're prepared and honored to care for you. Mina Kang, MD, Chief Medical Officer Providence Saint John's Health Center
