2 | Health Matters: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Letter to the Community I n a year that presented such an array of challenges, I urge everyone to look forward and join me in gratitude for our blessings as we celebrate this season of Thanksgiving, the joy of the holidays and the promise of a New Year. Topping my greatest gifts are my family, my friends and my Providence Holy Cross Medical Center family. I'm so honored to count our physicians, caregivers and volunteers among my heroes for their relentless commitment to our community. In September, we were able to hold our first live Caregiver Service Awards Ceremony in over two years. This special event honored staff members who celebrated milestone years with Providence. I thank each and every member of our Providence Holy Cross team for their dedication, especially during the worst of the pandemic. They showed courage, resilience and tremendous skill in serving our patients and community. During this time, the quality of care did not waver. In fact, this year U.S. News & World Report ranked our hospital No. 9 in Southern California and No. 17 in the state. We also earned two prestigious national rankings for the first time: Orthopedics ranked No. 35, and Obstetrics and Gynecology ranked No. 36. Phenomenal care … close to home! You'll read about the recognitions in this edition of Health Matters, and also about some of the ways we're helping our community take charge of their health. We continue to advance our new TCAR program, providing minimally invasive TransCarotid Artery Revascularization for patients at high risk of stroke, and promote stroke awareness as an important part of preventive care. November is Men's Health Awareness Month, and I suggest you read our important prevention tips. This edition also includes information about our lymphedema rehabilitation therapy program and Providence app. Finally, I'd like to remind our readers that Providence is committed to our community, inside and outside our hospital walls. Our community investment team is active across Southern California, working with partners to provide health and mental health care, vaccinations, groceries, housing for people experiencing homelessness, job training and much more. We offer these services as a legacy to our founding Catholic sisters and our 163-year-long mission to serve the poor and vulnerable. Thank you for your unwavering support of our hospital. We look forward to continuing to serve our community with compassion, excellence and innovation. I hope you and your loved ones have safe, healthy and enjoyable holidays! Bernard Klein, MD, Chief Executive Providence Holy Cross Medical Center
