To achieve our stewardship goals, we integrated and incentivized smart practices into our systems and structures Structures for Success Advocacy We advocate at every level of government to advance structural change. For example, in partnership with Healthcare Without Harm's Washington Healthcare Climate Alliance and the Washington State Hospital Association, we advocated for passage of the Washington State Clean Buildings Act and participated in the rule – making to establish energy use efficiency targets for all commercial buildings i n excess of 50,000 square feet in size. This will impact 31 Providence buildings alone. Purchasing Policy More than 38 percent of our carbon emissions come from procurement of goods and services. In 2021, we established an environmentally preferable purchasing policy with clear guidelines to align sourcing, purchasing and contracting functions with our environmental stewardship commitment. Governance Structures Progress and accountability for Environmental Stewardship reports directly into the system's Executive Council. The Environmental Justice Collaborative and the Environmental Stewardship Transformation Circle includes approximately 11 accountable divisions and regional liaisons driving success. Strategy Integration and Payment Incentives To ensure our collective commitment to environmental stewardship becomes a reality, the Providence family of organizations has aligned pay incentives for executive leaders by tying them to success metrics which track the reduction of carbon emissions. 12
