2 | Health Matters: Providence Mission Hospital Free Helmet Giveaway The Mission trauma team takes a proactive approach to protecting children in our community. As the only Level II adult and pediatric trauma center in South Orange County, Providence Mission Hospital knows just how important it is to wear a helmet. That's why our trauma team launched a free helmet giveaway program last November to make it even easier for children in our community to stay safe. Wearing the right helmet and protective gear while riding any sort of recreational wheeled device, like a bike, e-bike, skateboard or roller skates, lowers the risk of serious head injuries by nearly 70%. "Over the past year, we have seen a surge in the number of e-bike accidents," says trauma medical director Tetsuya Takeuchi, MD. "The safest thing your child can do to protect themselves is wear a helmet." We are so grateful to the Providence Mission Hospital Foundation and all the incredible donors in our community for enabling us to offer this resource. Letter to the Community O ur Mission family makes a powerful promise: to know you, care for you and ease your way. Every single day, our outstanding physicians and caregivers provide exceptional and lifesaving care inside the walls of our ministry. But our promise actually begins before you even walk through our doors. When the pandemic began two years ago, we wanted to find new ways to connect with you and support you through your health journey. That desire resulted in a new era of virtual education classes to help you navigate every stage of life. From family planning and heart-healthy habits to cancer and stroke prevention, we have outstanding physicians ready to guide and empower you through a collection of monthly webinars. We invite you to meet our doctors and take an active role in your health, all from the comfort of your home. It's never been easier to learn about a variety of health topics to promote healthy living for you and those you care about. You can explore our upcoming webinars at providence.org/ missionclasses and check back regularly for new additions. Seth R.
