2 | Health Matters: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Letter to the Community T he New Year is always a time of anticipation, dreams and goal setting, but after the year we've all just endured, 2022 brings promise, though also some trepidation as we continue to see new COVID variants. Providence Holy Cross will continue to serve our communities with the same commitment to quality, compassion, innovation and safety. The excellent work of our nurses never wavers. I am pleased to report that in December we were notified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center that Providence Holy Cross has been recertified as a Magnet hospital, a designation that indicates our nurses are among the top 8% of nursing teams in the nation for quality. Holy Cross first earned the prestigious Magnet recognition in 2007 and has continuously achieved redesignation every four years. A team from the American Nurses Credentialing Center conducted a virtual site visit and was extremely impressed by our nurses' enthusiasm and commitment to research— research that improves bedside care and the nursing environment. Nurses are the heart and soul of hospitals, and we are proud our team has been nationally recognized for its innovation and commitment. In October, we were elated to learn that our Neurosciences and Critical Care programs were ranked among the nation's best by Healthgrades. We were named among the top 5% in the nation for critical care and treatment of sepsis and the top 10% for neurosciences, cranial neurosurgery, treatment of stroke and safety. In 2021, Providence Holy Cross earned the following Healthgrades awards: • Neurosciences Excellence Award • Cranial Neurosciences Surgery Award • Stroke Excellence Award • Critical Care Excellence Award • Patient Safety Excellence Award The true award, however, comes when we send home patients who have undergone complex brain surgeries or suffered terrible injuries and are now healing. It's why we chose careers in health care. Together we will beat COVID-19 and we will continue to celebrate our health care heroes who give their all for every single patient. At Providence, we were gratified to be in a position to reward all our caregivers with financial bonuses for the exceptional work they accomplished throughout our hospital in the face of that initial fear of the unknown. They celebrated the victories and mourned with those who lost loved ones. And most importantly, they learned from each patient lessons to help the next patient.
