10 | Health Matters: Providence St. Mary Medical Center C hris Okwuosa, MD, completed medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2014 and his general surgery residency at Creighton University Medical Center in 2020. Dr. Okwuosa's areas of expertise are minimally invasive surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. Why did you choose your specialty? Surgery allows patients to achieve immediate results to medical conditions that are either acute or chronic. I also enjoy the opportunity to establish a close rapport with my patients as we work together in achieving resolution in the treatment of their respective conditions. Patients desire results whenever they meet with a surgeon, and I desire to deliver those results with excellent care. What do you want every patient of yours to know about you? I want every patient to know that I am a dedicated clinician who is compassionate when it comes to empathizing with them. I also want to see all my patients not only be well but to understand their medical conditions, so that we are on the same page throughout their treatment course with me. What is your favorite part of the job? I enjoy operating very much, but I like seeing my patients enjoy their wellness even more. My favorite part of the job is when a patient comes back for follow-up feeling better than when they first saw me. This gives me a sense of fulfillment, knowing that I am serving my patients and community well. Where are you from originally? I am originally from Los Angeles but grew up in the South Bay. What do you like to do for fun? I love to watch sports, and I'm also an avid movie fan. My favorite teams are the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers and the San Francisco 49ers.
