2 | Health Matters: Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Letter to the Community M uch has happened in our world these past few months. Fortunately, over time we continue to move closer to resuming a normal life. Our hospital heroes are still healing and recovering from the emotional toll and stress that was placed upon them this past year. Now, while continuing to safely care for patients, we are focused on the most promising hope for ending this crisis: vaccinating our community. I am hopeful that in the coming months we will be in a better place and that before long we will close the chapter on COVID-19. While the pandemic will be remembered for its extraordinary challenges, we also celebrate recent successes at our hospital. Providence Holy Cross continues to receive national recognition for clinical excellence from U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek, Healthgrades and the American Stroke Association. And in the turmoil of COVID-19 surges, we were named for the second straight year among Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work in Healthcare, based in part on our own employee surveys. I am also pleased to announce that last month we participated in the prestigious Magnet Recognition Program survey by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Based on surveyor feedback, we expect to receive their four-year designation, recognized as the gold standard of nursing excellence. Currently, only about 8% of the more than 6,000 U.S. health care organizations have received the credential, and Providence Holy Cross is among this elite group. Although COVID-19 remains a part of our lives for the foreseeable future, I am confident in our ability to care for our patients when and where they need us. As we turn the corner on this pandemic, we know there will be a few bumps along the way. The road to recovery will not be completed overnight. However, as we stay focused on providing exceptional care, continue to grow our hospital services and programs and bring the newest in medical technology to this community, we will continue to carry on our mission of serving the poor and vulnerable. Bernard Klein, MD, Chief Executive Providence Holy Cross Medical Center
