PolicyLink and PERE 103 An Equity Profile of Orange County Selected terms and general notes Data and methods (continued) General notes on analyses Below we provide some general notes about the analysis conducted: • In regard to monetary measures (income, earnings, wages, etc.) the term "real" indicates the data have been adjusted for inflation. All inflation adjustments are based on the Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, available at: https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.t01.ht m (see table 24). • Some may wonder why the graph on page 43 indicates the years 1979, 1989, and 1999 rather than the actual survey years from which the information is drawn (1980, 1990, and 2000, respectively). This is because income information in the decennial census for those years is reported for the year prior to the survey. While seemingly inconsistent, the actual survey years are indicated in the graphs on page 44 depicting rates of poverty and working poverty, as these measures are partly based on family composition and work efforts at the time of the survey, in addition to income from the year prior to the survey.
