Unemployment is higher for people of color
Who is getting the region's jobs? Examining
unemployment by race/ethnicity over the
past two decades we find that, despite some
progress, racial and ethnic employment gaps
persist in Orange County. Asian
Americans/Pacific Islanders and Native
Americans have the lowest labor force
participation rates. Native Americans and
African Americans have the highest
unemployment rates. All racial/ethnic groups
except Latinos experienced an increase in
unemployment between 1990 and 2016.
