Meanwhile the Latino population grew by 22 percent (199,723 residents) and the Black population by 13 percent (6,379 residents). The county's Native American and non-Hispanic white populations have decreased. During this time period, immigration spurred growth of the API population: 55 percent of the growth in the API population between 2000 and 2016 was from foreign-born APIs. In contrast, the growth in the Latino population has been solely due to U.S.- born Latinos. There has been a net loss in the number of foreign-born Latinos in the county.
