Health Matters: Providence Mission Hospital | 9 Providence Mission Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Aaron B. Fowler, MD, to Orange County Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons with Sevak H. Darbinian, MD. In June, Dr. Fowler joined the practice, fulfilling a goal of returning to Southern California. "My family had lived in Southern California, and it's a place we always wanted to come back to," Dr. Fowler says. Dr. Fowler has always been very hands-on and the decision to go into surgery was an easy one. "I like working with my hands and fixing things," he says. "When I started medical school, I knew I wanted to do surgery. I love to see what a difference you can make in people's lives. We have patients who come in really sick, but we have the chance to improve their overall health and quality of life." At Providence Mission, Dr. Fowler provides a range of cardiothoracic surgery services, including coronary artery bypass, aortic and mitral valve repairs and replacements as well as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). In addition to the beautiful Southern California weather, Dr. Fowler says he was drawn to Providence Mission based on our outstanding reputation in cardiovascular care. Our cardiovascular team focuses on minimizing surgical interventions and accelerating recovery. "Our operation times are fast, with less time spent on cardiopulmonary bypass," he says. "Cardiovascular surgery is a maximally invasive surgery, but we do minimally invasive surgery whenever we can and try to minimize the length of time for recovery. We have an excellent cardiovascular team made up of operating room staff, anesthesiologists, a nurse practitioner and ICU nurses. Due to this excellent team and the care they provide, our patients do very well here." Natural Birth with Our Midwives Providence Mission Hospital offers obstetrics patients the option of receiving care from our highly trained certified nurse midwives. They provide preconceptual, prenatal and postpartum care. Midwives also provide routine gynecological care and family planning services. The midwives have joined the Mission Heritage OB-GYN group. Midwives of Mission Heritage OB-GYN will be attending births at Providence Mission in either a labor-and- delivery or midwifery suite, making our midwifery practice unique. This arrangement offers the advantage of having our Providence Mission OB physicians readily available to care for emergencies that may arise as well as 24/7 availability of other support personnel. As midwives, our goal is to walk beside you as you experience the joys and challenges of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. We are here to offer guidance and support every step of the way.
