A WORD FROM OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE Garry Olney Chief Executive, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers San Pedro and Torrance I n January, when one of our Providence medical centers admitted the first known U.S. patient with COVID-19, we knew we were in for a long journey. Our caregivers and physicians have been on the frontlines ever since, and I remain incredibly proud of how they have stepped up to the challenge. Their response has been best in class! Our two medical centers, in Torrance and San Pedro, continue to provide care to our patients with excellence, compassion and dignity under extraordinary circumstances. The health and safety of our patients and communities remains our No. 1 priority as we treat patients with and without COVID-19. With widespread unemployment affecting our communities, we are also preparing to care for more people who may be uninsured or covered by Medi- Cal. This will require us to revamp our operating model to ensure we can deliver high-quality services more affordably to more people regardless of their ability to pay. It is going to be a long road ahead, and we will need to dig deep. The unwavering dedication of our employees, physicians, and community to our Mission ensures that Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers remain as strong and vital as ever. The senior leadership team is laser focused on the needs of today and concurrently envisioning the needs of tomorrow. I am a firm believer that if we all pay close attention to the lessons we are learning through these unprecedented times—if we have the humbleness to learn from our mistakes and the confidence that we can improve—then we can profile our future in ways that will benefit our communities. We will be more organized, just, resilient and compassionate. This is not a certain outcome. It will depend on us making wise decisions, educated by the best scientific evidence and governed by our most cherished values. This is the challenge that lies ahead. It is the challenge to which Providence Little Company of Mary is called and committed.
