Memorandum: Today's Hearing on Providence Tarzana Reimagined Project

This morning, the City of Los Angeles held the first public hearing on our plan to expand and enhance the Providence Tarzana campus. No decisions were made but about a dozen people testified in favor of our Providence Tarzana Reimagined project.

A theme of many of their public comments was not about the hospital buildings, but about the care you provide our patients and their families each and every day. Today I want to thank all our physicians and caregivers for their dedication to the people we serve and for your patience as we embark on this construction project.

Father Jay Cunnane, pastor of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church spoke of our commitment to healing body, mind and spirit, something he said he witnesses during his frequent visits with ill parishioners.
Rabbi Yanky Kahn of Chabad of the Valley said, “Providence Tarzana does and amazing job for our families and our communities.” One former patient spoke of our commitment to providing a “higher level of care,” and many members of the local business community spoke of our many awards, including multiple years as one of Healthgrades’ Top 100 Hospitals.

All of this testimony will be part of the record when the Los Angeles City Planning Commission reviews our project in January, with more hearings to follow.

I’m confident Providence Reimagined will be approved and we will continue the great work we do. We’re planning new buildings with the latest equipment and other amenities, but it’s you, our caregivers, who have built this ministry and given members of our community confidence that we will take good care of them and their families now and in the future.

Thank you for all that you do.

Dale Surowitz,
Chief Executive
Providence Tarzana Medical Center
