COVID-19 is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person and between people in close contact with one another. The virus is thought to spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include fever, cough and difficulty breathing. Here are some tips on how to protect yourself:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place. Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol, if soap and water aren’t available.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash (putting a tissue on a table contaminates the surface of the table with germs).
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Take extra precautions to reduce the likelihood of exposure, if you are at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19.
