St. Joseph Hospital Earns Women's Choice Award for Patient Excellence

May 15, 2018

St. Joseph Hospital has earned the 2018 Women’sChoice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience for the second consecutive year. The hospital is one of 100 award recipients representing hospitals of similar size that have met the highest standards for patient experience in the nation.

“We are proud to once again be recognized as one of the nation’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience, said Jeremy S. Zoch, PhD, MHA, FACHE, chief executive of St. Joseph Hospital. “Every caregiver, physician and volunteer in our hospital contributes to the overall patient experience. This award celebrates our focus on providing exceptional care while also creating an extraordinary experience for each individual we serve.”

The America’s 100 Best Hospitals scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that focuses on what matters most to women when choosing a hospital. It evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. For 2018, the most important considerations were effective communication with nurses and doctors, responsiveness to requests for help, pain management, explanation about medications before being administered, bathroom and room cleanliness and patient recommendation ratings.

According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, good patient experience positively correlates to disease management, adherence to treatment plans and health outcomes.

“St. Joseph Hospital was awarded because it is one of the best at treating their patients the way their patients want to be treated,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “Hospital choice is a critical decision, particularly for women, who make over 80% of healthcare decisions. Our designation makes it easier for them to choose a hospital where they and their families are more likely to have a better experience and outcome.”
