Providence Health Magazine Summer 2016

June 24, 2016

I am delighted to offer my inaugural message to you as chief executive of Providence Southern California, an organization that has welcomed me warmly and one that impressed me so much that my wife and I decided to relocate from the East Coast.

What drew me to Providence was its Mission of compassionate care to those who are underserved and its excellent reputation for outstanding, innovative, award-winning patient care. But most of all it was the people of Providence who convinced me I was making the right choice. They not only are dedicated to what they do but excited about embracing new ideas.

Some of these new ideas are underway, such as the new Obstetrical Rapid Medical Evaluation program at Providence Tarzana Medical Center that provides 24-hour specialized emergency care for pregnant women who may be suffering complications. You can read about our system-wide commitment to high-quality obstetrics care on page 14.

This issue reflects our commitment to helping men take good care of themselves too (page 24). I’m also proud to announce our ambitious plans to redevelop Providence Tarzana Medical Center in the coming years, which will enhance care for residents of the San Fernando Valley (page 18).

I’m excited about my move west and the opportunities to meet with our caregivers and residents from the South Bay to the Westside and the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. Together we will continue to improve the quality of care Providence provides as we realize our core strategy: Creating Healthier Communities, Together.
